Tajing Dong: The Highest Mountain Of Bangladesh

Tajing Dong is a mountain range in Bangladesh, located on the Saichal Range in Remakri Pangsha Union, Ruma Upazila of Bandarban. Officially, it is the highest mountain range in Bangladesh and its height is 1280 meters (4198.4 feet). In the past, Kaokradong was considered the highest mountain range in Bangladesh, and modern research has proved this information wrong.

Currently, private research claims that Mount Saka Huffong is the highest mountain in Bangladesh, but it is not yet officially recognized. In the language of the local tribes, the word ‘tajing’ means big and ‘dong’ means hill. From these two words, the Tajingdong mountain named. It is also known as Bijoy (Victory) to many people.

Best Time For Summit:

Winter is the best time for the summit in Tajingdong. It is good for you, not summit in the rainy season because, in these times, the fountain is dangerous to climb.

How To Go Tajing Dong Mountain

If you want to go to the summit in Tajingdong, you have to come to Bandarban first. There are lots of ways to comes to Bandarban from Dhaka. You can come directly by bus. Or if you want to come separately then you can come by bus, train, plane whatever you want.

The Way Of Bus:

The best route to Bandarban is to go directly from Dhaka by Bus. From Dhaka to Bandarban route, from different places of Dhaka. S Alam, Saudia, Unique, Hanif, Shyamli, Saint Martin Transport, Dolphin, etc buses leave for Bandarban. These bus fares for AC and non-AC people are 550 to 1500 Tk.

Besides, you can come to Chittagong from Dhaka and then you can go to Bandarban by charging a bus from Chittagong BRTC terminal or Dampara bus stand for 100-300 TK. From Chittagong, you can go to Bandarban by private car by costing 2500-3500 Tk.

Several airlines including Bangladesh Biman, GMG Airlines, United Airways operate direct flights from Dhaka to Chittagong. After comes Chittagong by plane, you have to go to Bandarban in the above mentioned ways.

Bandarban to Tajingdong:

Tajingdong is located in rum but you can not leave from Ruma. Because from Ruma now only Keokradong is allowed to go. Even if you can go to Jadipai, you can go up. So now if anyone wants to do the Tajingdong Summit, he has to go to Thanchi. And then routes will be:

Dhaka-Bandarban-Thanchi-Headman Para- Sherkor Para- Tajing Dong

The distance from Bandarban to Thanchi Upazila is about 79 kilometers. There are two ways to go from Bandarban to Thanchi; On a bus or a reserve jeep. After an hour from Thanchi bus stand in Bandarban, the local bus leaves for Thanchi. Bus fare is Tk. 200 per person, it will take 4-5 hours. Reserve jeep / Chader Gari  will cost 5500-6000 Tk, and in that case it will take 3-3.5 hours. One vehicle can easily carry 12 to 14 people.

On the way to, Milanchari, Chimuk and Nilgiri will be seen. Take a guide from Thanchi to Sherkar Para. You can spend night at Sherkar para and then next morning you go Tajingdong for summit. Afterthat you can return back for sherkar para come thanchi before noon. And if you want to come from Sherkar Para to Thuisa Para and see Amiyakhum Velakhum, you can come to Thanchi through Nafakhum Remakri Big Stone King Stone Tindu.

If you want to stay in Thanchi, Thanchi Kutir/Bijib Cottage will be best option.

  • Thanchi bus departs from Bandarban – 8 am, 9:30 am, 10:45 pm, 12 pm, 1:30 pm, 3 pm.
  • From Thanchi to Bandarban – 7 am, 8:30 am, 10am, 11:30 am, 1 pm, 3 pm.
  • Chand car – After reach Bandarban from jeep association.
  • Bus return ticket – on the 1st day you will have breakfast and buy a ticket.

  • Remakri Guide – Thanchi Guide will fix it.
  • Boat Rental – Thanchi Guide will fix it.
  • To get to Tajingdong you need to bring dry food, water purification tablets, warm clothes, torch light, orsaline, mosquito repellent lotion and necessary medicines.
